Robot Valentines

I got this idea from Family Fun Magazine and just tweeked it to suit my needs. For the base, I used a box of candy hearts. I printed out the saying using the computer onto colored cardstock. The eyes are lifesavers and the arms are paperclips. Then I used mints as the feet. To attach everything, I used glue dots. After awhile, the robots would fall over. So I had to reinforce the mints with a glue gun. It was Connor's idea to add the googly eyes. I found the upc codes on the back of some cardstock that I had bought from Archiver's a long time ago. I just peeled them off, trimmed them to size, and glued them onto the robots. I like the way they turned out, but they were not cheap to make. All that candy started to add up!!!

Tuxedo and Dress Wedding Card

I had a horrible time coming up with a wedding card that I liked. All my stamps or cutting files were old-fashioned----intricate wedding cakes, bouquets, wedding rings, bells, doves, etc. I wanted something more contemporary. For the tuxedo, I used some subtle striped black scrapbooking paper I found at Archiver's. I was tempted to buy some really fancy, glittery paper for the bridal dress, but I remembered that I am on a mission to use what I already have this year. So I just used plain white cardstock and embossed it with my cuttlebug with a swirl pattern and a daisy pattern. Then I added some pearls and prima flowers for the finishing touch.

I made these adorable Valentine's for my son's preschool class last year. Since many of us are doing our Valentine planning right now, I thought I would share them with you again. I got the original idea from Family Fun Magazine, but then I tweeked it! Here's the example from Family Fun:

Materials: plastic shovels, ribbon, designer paper, cardstock, plastic bags, candy, stamps, ink

****You may have trouble finding plastic shovels in the stores at this time of year. Check out Oriental Trading Co. or Ebay. I bought mine on Ebay last year.

I cut out tags and glued patterned heart paper on them. To add some dimension, I cut out a few heart off of the patterned paper and added them to the tag with some pop dots. The "I Dig U!" was stamped with Stampin' Up's Crayon Fun Alphabet, but you can also print out the phrase on your computer. I attached the baggies to the shovels with string and then attached the tag. I used multiple colors and patterns of ribbon to give it some extra flair.

This past weekend, I was the organizer of a Christmas-themed Shoebox Swap. We held the event at Lone Star Retreat and Event Center in Georgetown. It is a great place and I highly recommend their facilities. We had 24 stations set up---one for each participant. Each participant designed a card and cut up all the pieces for the others to make it. Then we rotated from spot to spot and made one anothers' cards. It's like centers in school, but for adults!!! If you ever have a chance to participate in one of these events, I highly recommend it. If you are interested in attending one in the future, let me know because plans are already in the making for another one.

Goldfish Soap In A Bag

Remember winning goldfish at the carnival "back in the day"? My son is having a carnival themed birthday party and I made these as prizes for the goldfish booth. The kids have to throw ping pong balls in little water-filled fish bowls. When they win, they get their own fish for a prize. I think it's a more animal-friendly prize because those poor goldfish would always die as soon as you got home. Now they can peel off the plastic wrapping and take a bath with it! Austin Shoebox Swap Doorprize

Here is my doorprize for the Austin Area Shoebox Swap that was held this weekend. I used a Lauren Meader template for the stationery box. I got the clear paint can from Archiver's and added some designer paper (K & Company), a belly band, and ribbon to give it some extra pizazz. I filled the paint can with fun ivory/black embelllishments from Archiver's.

Big Top Invitations

Here are the invitations I made for my son's circus/carnival themed birthday party. I really wanted to use red and white striped paper for the tent, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I think I like the mulit-colored striped paper better after all. For the clown, I used the Paper Dolls Cricut cartridge. I love that cartridge because it's so versatile. The peanut on the inside of the card was made from a bikini top on the Cricut. I just cut off the straps to the bikini, drew some lines, and sponged it with brown ink. You probably can't tell from the photo, but the balloons are shiny. I made them shiny by adding crystal effects. I made 30 invitations and it took me 3 weeks. I am so glad to finally get to work on something else!

I found this paper and Memory Depot and I bought all they had left. I just fell in love with the color combination. I never thought of using Teal and Eggplant together. And I just love this stamp set from A Muse stamps. It's perfect for a graduation or promotion.

Blooming Faces Teacher Gift

My son's Pre-K Teacher has been so awesome this year. We decided to show our appreciation for her by collecting money and purchasing a BIG Visa card for her. Being a crafty gal, I just COULDN'T bear the thought of just handing it to her in a card. So I made a flower pot for her. The stems of the flowers are pencils. To save time (this was a last minute idea, of course), I bought pre-made flower diecuts from Archiver's. Then I put each child's face in the middle of a flower. Included with the flower pot was an excellent poem that I got from Geeta's blog. It was just perfect for the occasion.

Masculine Birthday Card

I have the hardest time coming up with masculine cards. I came up with this design last night and am quite pleased. I think I am going to make about 10 of them so I don't have to come up with another design for the year.

Can anyone help me figure out how to fix this photo? The original photo has the correct orientation, so I don't have any idea why it keeps coming out like this on the blog. I have even tried reducing the size and it makes no difference!

It's been forever since I have posted on my blog! I went on vacation and had a difficult time getting back into the groove of things. But I am back with a vengeance! A friend of mine got married in Belize and I wanted to surprise her with something crafty to remember it by. So I made her a squash book to display some of her wedding photos. I had never made one before, so I went to Splitcoast Stampers for a tutorial on squash books by Beate Johns. The hardest part was accurately scoring the cardstock---I kept messing up! I love the way it opens up to reveal all of the photos! I hope they like it and that I did their photos justice.

Lisa's Clever Teacher Gift

My friend, Lisa Harrington, made this awesome Valentine's gift set for the teachers this year. She took a box with compartments in it and covered it with some pretty floral designer paper. (Originally, the box had skulls on it.) Then she altered some hand soap and hand sanitizer bottles by covering them with pretty paper, ribbon, and hand stamped floral tags. She added handcream, wipes, Shout stain remover pads, and candy. Isn't this such a clever gift idea? I am a former teacher and I definitely would've loved to have received this gift! You wouldn't believe how teachers go through these items! I just love practical, yet pretty gifts. Lisa, thanks for letting me share your awesome creation with my blog followers!

Out Of The Box Teacher Gift

I made this for my son's pre-school teacher for Valentine's Day. It's a box made from very thick scrapbook paper that contains 12 monogrammed cards. The cards and envelopes fit into two sections in the box. The box closes with a magnet fastener. The handle is purely for decoration and not functional. I learned this the hard way! I tried to pick it up by the handle and it broke. The box with its contents is just too heavy for the handle. This project was made from the "Out Of The Box" template designed by Lauren Meader. I used a Just-Rite stamp set for the monogram and its border.

SCS Shoebox Swap Card

I had a wonderful time this weekend at the San Antonio SCS Shoebox Swap. I got to make so many wonderful cards, but my favorite part was meeting new people and catching up with my old friends! It's nice to hang out with people who "get" me-----you know, other people who are as fanatical about stamping as I am! christy1807 on SCS was the host and it was wonderful! She did an fantastic job organizing this event. Check out her blog to see the photos of the other cards at the swap.

For my card, I decided to try a swing (flip flop) card . Check out the Swing Card tutorial by Beate on SCS. It has step by step instructions that are very simple to follow. I wish I could show you the other side of the card, but I can't get it to show up correctly. It keeps posting horizontally! Anyone know how to fix it?

SCS Doorprize

Here is my door prize for the SCS Shoebox Swap in San Antonio. I filled plastic jars (Making Memories) with ribbon, buttons, brads, prima flowers, and chipboard embellishments. Then I decorated the tops with flowers and stars. I altered the box that the jars came in by covering it with designer paper (Target's Dollar Spot). I hope whoever wins my doorprize really likes it.

NYE Challenge Cards

For New Year's Eve, Splitcoaststampers hosted a night full of challenges to get us inspired for the new year. Since dh had to work, I decided to join in on the fun. Here are just a few of the challenges they had:

The challenge for this card was to design an Asian inspired card. This is my very first Asian inspired card! Asian is not really my style and I don't own many stamps in that style, so it definitely was a challenge for me. I also challenged myself to use up some of my Designer Paper scraps.

The challenge for this card was to use a retired stamp set. I have had this stamp set for a very long time and it was collecting dust. I challenged myself to make a masculine card. I don't know about you, but masculine cards are pretty difficult for me. I also managed to use another DP scrap.

The challenge for this card was to use formal colors: black, white, and silver or gold. No stamping was involved in this card. I used my craftrobo machine to cut out the silver overlay. I got the file from http://www.ukscrappers.co.uk/index.php . If you have a cutting machine, this site is a must! They have many wonderful free templates available.

Asian Inspired Card:

Post-It Note & Pen Holders

Sorry for the not so crisp photo. I am hoping Santa brings me a better camera for Christmas. I made these Post It Note & Pen Holders for a craft fair. They are the perfect size to slip into your purse or backpack. I learned how to make them from a tutorial from Dawns Stampin Studio .

Ghirardelli Chocolate Holders

I made a bunch of these to put in all the teachers' mailboxes at my son's pre-school. It holds two Ghirardelli chocolate squares. Pictured are some of the many designs I made. Here are the directions:

Directions For Outside:

1. Cut cardstock 7" x 3" and score at 3 1/4" from both ends. 2. Use a 2 3/4" x 2 1/2" piece of designer paper or decorated cardstock for the front. Add main stamped image to the front. Punch holes and run ribbon through.

Directions For Inside:

1) Cut a piece of designer paper or stamped typing paper 5 1/4" x 6".2) Put two pieces of chocolate on paper and make a sleeve that will fit the chocolates.3) Glue down sleeve to cardstock. Punch 2 tiny holes through the spine and tie a piece of silver cord for added decoration.

You can't leave the dog off of your Christmas list. If your dog is anything like mine, then it is basically another child----just a four-legged fur baby. My friend, Sue, gave me an awesome dog treat recipe. Peekaboo loved them! I even cut them out into christmas-tree shapes. I originally used a gingerman cookie cutter, but they came out looking too much like people and that was just plain creepy. Speaking of creepy, I even tried one. After looking at the ingredients, I didn't think it would be too yucky. It was okay, but it's not something I would eat regularly. That's okay because Peekaboo is fine having them all to herself!

Dog Treat Recipe

2 cups stone ground whole wheat flour
½ cup cornmeal
1 clove garlic, finely minced
½ cup finally grated cheddar cheese
1 egg
¼ cup cooking oil
1 beef bouillon cube dissolved in ½ cup water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In the bowl of a food processor combine flour, cornmeal, garlic, and cheese. In a small bowl, whisk together egg and oil. With the food processor running, add egg/oil mixture and process until evenly crumbly. With processor still running, add bouillon until a ball forms (if dough is too stiff, add more oil and/or cheese as necessary). Roll out dough on an ungreased surface to nearly ½ inch thickness. Cut with a shaped cutter (cat-shaped rather fun). Place on greased baking sheets and bake for 30 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack. May be stored in an air tight container while they last.

Here's a cute idea that I case'd from JillFL on Splitcoast Stampers. I think they turned out really cute. For the vase, I used an empty prima bottle and filled them with Christmas M&Ms. I attached the peppermint patties to lollipop sticks.

Tag Pouches

Here are two styles of tag pouches that I made for my craft fair. They each contain a dozen tags. I used a 6 x 6 scrapbook page protector as the pouch and adhered it to a cardstock base. Then I added some designer paper, a ribbon, and a circle tag and voila-----a cute way to package tags!

Scripture Magnets

I thought these would do really well at the church craft fair this weekend, but they didn't! I was really surprised. You just never know what will sell from one week to another. It's all hit or miss. For instance, I sold many UT Longhorn items at the previous fair. So I made a whole bunch more and sold NONE this weekend. Go figure. I have 3 more fairs to do, so hopefully they will sell.

I used Verve scripture stamps with Black Stazon Ink and then glued a heavy magnet on the back. Most people use the Chiaro Marble Tiles, but they didn't work for me. The holes/imperfections in the tile made the scripture unreadable, so I used Travertine 2" x 2" tiles instead.

The m&m Christmas Story

I made these m&m tubes for my craft fair yesterday at a local church. They were a hit! The poem reads:

As you hold these candies In your hand, And turn them, You will see. The M becomes a W, An E, and then a 3. They tell the Christmas story, It's one I'm sure you know. It took place in a stable. A long, long, time ago.

The E is for the East, Where the star shone so bright. The M is for the Manger, Where Baby Jesus slept that night. The 3 is for the Wise men, Bearing gifts, they say they came.

W is for Worship, Hallelujah, Praise His name. So as you eat these candies, Or share them with a friend. Remember the meaning of Christmas, It's a Love story that never ends.

I did this card for Libby's challenge (http://stampinlibby.blogspot.com/). We were supposed to make a card based on one of our favorite teams. Well, I don't really like sports but my dh is from Green Bay. He is an avid fan of the Packers and is even a shareholder. Tomorrow is their first game and we'll be watching the game here. I plan on putting this card in his briefcase so that he'll have a pleasant surprise when he gets to work. Isn't the image adorable? It is a WRAK from Yvonne Delaney off of SCS. Thanks, Yvonne!

Dude Cards!

I don't know about you, but I have the hardest time coming up with cards for guys. To force me to get out of my guy card slump, I decided to join a "Who's Your Daddy" swap on Splitcoaststampers. I did two different designs for the swap. For the first one, I used a Craft Robo to cut out "WILD THING" on the side. For the second swap card, I used some awesome (but retired) designer paper from Stampin' Up! Now I am wishing that I had bought more of it. I hope my fellow swappers like the cards I made.

Important Lesson Learned!

I ran over something with my car and just figured it was just a rock, so I kept on driving. A few minutes later, a man drove next to me with sheer terror on his face. He was very frantic and was motioning me to pull over. I almost ignored him because he was acting all wacko, but I put two and two together and realized that there was something wrong with my car. I am so glad I pulled over because my gas tank had been pierced by a metal bedframe piece. Gas was gushing out of my tank. The metal pole was dangerously close to dragging on the ground and it could've created a spark and my car could have blown up with me and Connor in it! WHEW!!!! What a close call! My important lesson learned was:

Always stop after running over anything with your car and make sure the gas tank isn't leaking!

After my scary, freak-accident the other day, I have been very stressed out. I think it's because I recently had my car totalled by a kid with just a learning permit and because I had to stay very calm in front of my son so that I wouldn't freak him out. I just finally couldn't hold it in anymore and I needed to let the stress out. After a big cry, I got to work making some stationery folio sets. They each come with 3 matching cards, decorated envelopes, a bookmark, and a pen. I feel better now!

I made this card for my mom's 69th birthday. The inside reads, "getting lucky means you found your car in the parking lot." My mom has a great sense of humor and is NOTHING like the granny on the card. She is so much fun and is very active. I got this set when I was in Wisconsin last month visiting my sister-in-law, Juli. I got so excited when I found out that Juli lives just a couple of miles from the Gina K store. I went to the store and bought lots of goodies. Unfortunately, I didn't get to meet Gina. She was out of town while I was there.

Yeah! No more Olympics!

I am so glad the Olympics are over. I can now go back to a normal sleeping schedule. For the past two weeks, I have been staying up until 3 a.m. watching the LIVE coverage. Why can't I just be a normal person and watch it at a normal hour when it's taped? The funny thing is that I don't even like to watch sports on t.v.! The only time I watch sports is during the Olympics and The Tour de France. So now I can get back to creating and stamping!
